Alright I'm still in the starting blocks with this one. I want to do some investing, but I really don't know where to begin. I don't know if I need a minimum amount to do so. I'm not sure where to go to find what would be a good investment.

I need help is there anyone out there who is willing to make some recommendations?

I think the question was about if I wanted to start a retreat center and didn't have the money what would I do give up ... or? ..... Actually I started a special account just for that and began a fund raising effort which also included writing some grants. We did receive a small grant and some other individual funding. I discovered that I am not a very good fund raiser and have had difficulty finding the right person or people to serve on my board or directors that would assist me with this.

After reading some of the 7m7y related materials including "the E Myth Revisited", "the Influencer" and more recently Jack Canfields "the Success Principles" and Mike Murdock's "the Uncommon Leader", I discovered that my greatest problem is articulating exactly what I want. But I have received some good "revelations" regarding this, so I'm back at it again.

BTW: Lee, you didn't answer my question (two comments ago) :)

@ Jeff - Actually a wonderful idea; Lee, I can see the need for a bricks'n'mortar center COMBINED with online outreach ... for an idea of how this might work check out http://www.sedona.com/ ... what they teach is not important here, it's how they package online course/downloads/blogs/newsletters, with live course, and 'retreats' at their center in Sedona.

@ Jeff - The Internet idea has one major flaw, it keeps the participants in their same setting and not able to get "away". While I can do a lot on the internet, some of which I'm already doing at http://www.theultimatestressreliever.blogspot.com the need to be at an actual location is a must.

Lee,

Adrian just spurred a thought in me that may be applicable to your "or" that he references above.

Why not take your retreat center to the internet? The audience will be bigger and the infrastructure and investment costs will be minimal.

Yes you will lose some of the human touch that would come from a true bricks and mortar facility, but I bet you could help more people by taking things online. In addition to the wider audience that the internet would offer, it will give anonymity that your "real" facility couldn't provide. I'm sure there are some "tough guy" cops and fire fighters that don't want others to know they're having difficulties.

I can see a website that comprises a blog (maybe hosted/written by you), links to online stress/coping resources, connections to local facilities, and a forum to enable an online conversation.

Your thoughts?

Here's the comment (actually, a question) for you, Lee:

"@ Lee - Let my try and answer your original question with a question: say you want to develop a retreat center for retired or stressed police officers ... you don't have the money to open one yourself, but you know it's a necessary and worthwhile cause. What do you do? Give up? Or ........... ?

It's the "or .... " that I'm interested in hearing your opinion on, as you have no doubt been involved in these types of situations many times in your 'calling' as Police Chaplain and Pastor?!"

I think I got my 'retreat center' comment on the wrong post, Lee ... it was related to "how do I make money from nothing".
